We, at Busiconnect IT, have seen quite a number of clients who have lost money through fraudulent activity. So here is some tips to help you keep safe.
If this image comes up on your screen, and it will come with loads of noise, please power off your computer immediately, preferably by pulling the plug, or, if you have a Laptop, hold the power button down until the laptop shuts off!. This message is a fake warning message and it is meant to scare you to ring the number they provide in the message… if you call the number, you will get a fake Microsoft technician whose main aim is to steal money from your bank.
So please beware of the following types of scams that may come through your computer or phone,
1) Email scams
2) Fake Banking websites.
3) Mobile Phone Scams.
Tips on Staying Safe…
1)Always use an Internet Security application to help protect your computer.
2)Never use a search engine, such as Google, to access your bank, always use a known link (web address).
3)Passwords – renew your passwords as often as possible.
4)Use 2 Factor Authentication with banks.
5)Do not let anyone access your computer remotely for banking or financial matters.
6) Always stay present when you have someone remotely working on your computer, don’t leave the computer.
6)Keep an eye on your bank statements and general daily use transactions.
If you have been Hacked…
1) Call the police.
2) Ring the Bank if your banking details have, or might have, been compromised.
3) Get a Credit Check Ban in place.
4) Change your banking and other passwords. (Don’t make your banking passwords the same as your other general use passwords).
5) Check for viruses and remove any software that you don’t use, especially remote access software such as AnyDesk.
6) Call IDCARE on 1800 595 160 www.idcare.org to help you with data breaches.
